Il cuneo del Mediterraneo : confini marittimi e guerra del pesce nel Canale di Sicilia (1962-81)

L'articolo intende ricostruire le vicende della territorializzazione del mare nel Canale di Sicilia nel secondo dopoguerra, in particolare nella fase della Distensione, mettendo in relazione questo processo con la politica mediterranea dell'Italia e le sue relazioni con Paesi decolonizzati quali Tunisia e Libia. Subito dopo la fine della Seconda guerra mondiale, il progresso tecnologico dell'estrazione di risorse dal mare condusse alla necessità di regolare gli spazi marittimi: furono ampliati i confini delle acque territoriali e creati nuovi istituti giuridici per la tutela delle risorse. Questo processo, lungo circa quattro decenni, è connesso a conflitti politici, economici e militari ben visibili nel Canale di Sicilia, area oggetto della ricerca. L'autore sostiene che, all'interno di queste dinamiche, sia necessario mettere in discussione la categoria storiografica della Distensione nel contesto del Mediterraneo centro-occidentale. The article reconstructs the events surrounding the territorialisation of the sea in the Strait of Sicily during the postwar period, paying special attention to the phase of détente, and linking this process to Italy' s Mediterranean policy and its relations with decolonised countries, such as Tunisia and Libya. In the aftermath of the Second World War, technological advances in the extraction of marine resources led to the necessity of regulating maritime spaces. Indeed, the boundaries of territorial waters were extended, and new legal instruments were established for the protection of resources. This process, spanning roughly four decades, is tied to political, economic, and military conflicts that were particularly evident in the Strait of Sicily, the primary focus of this research. The author argues that, given these dynamics, the historiographical category of détente should be reconsidered in the context of the central-western Mediterranean. [Publisher's text]
