Taranto : città, sviluppo e territorio nel secondo dopoguerra (1945-1977)

  • Il contributo ricostruisce il processo di industrializzazione che ha interessato il territorio di Taranto a partire dagli anni Sessanta del Novecento. Si esamina la situazione dell'area nel decennio precedente, evidenziando i fattori che concorrevano alla crisi economica della città e le dinamiche che caratterizzavano lo sviluppo urbanistico. Si analizzano dunque le scelte localizzative per lo stabilimento siderurgico Italsider, e la conseguente modificazione dell'assetto territoriale. In seguito, si ricostruisce l'impatto dell'impianto sulla società locale, e l'impulso impresso alla trasformazione del tessuto urbano. Ci si sofferma dunque sul dibattito urbanistico degli anni Sessanta. Infine, si esaminano le conseguenze del "raddoppio" dello stabilimento: la scoperta dell'inquinamento industriale, lo scontro fra azienda e istituzioni locali sul controllo del territorio, la vertenza per il riassorbimento della disoccupazione di ritorno e la diversificazione dell'economia ionica.   • This work reconstructs the process of industrialisation that involved the area of Taranto from the 1960s onwards. It examines the situation of the area in the previous decade, highlighting the elements that contributed to the economic crisis of the town and the dynamics that characterized the urban development. Then, it focuses on the decisional process regarding the location of the Italsider steel plant, and the consequent modification of the territorial arrangement, together with the impact of this plant on the local society, and its interaction with urban development. Further, it analyses the debate about city planning in the Sixties. Finally, it examines the consequences of the "doubling" of the steel plant: the mounting evidence about pollution and its impact, the tensions between the company and the local institutions about the control of the territory, the problem of the diversification of the local economy.
