L'idea della filosofia in Michele Federico Sciacca
P. 405-414
This contribution examines some aspects of Sciacca's thinking on the existential dimension of philosophy. The context and the more general themes of the author's thinking are briefly reconstructed (1), in particular his reading of Plato and his proposal for a metaphysics of truth. Some related ethical and educational aspects are then highlighted (2). Among other aspects, it is noted how Sciacca sought to transform the motivating function in the practice of philosophy, which in his early works he had attributed to faith, emphasising the role of the intellect, particularly with regard to the cognition of good and the ultimate purpose of human existence.
On this basis, where a Platonic debt can be recognised, he attributes existential relevance to the theoretical dimension of philosophy, demonstrating its ethical and educational relevance [Publisher's Text].
