  • New research materials are emerging from the various international relationships maintained by Leonardo Sciascia. A research project funded by Amici di Leonardo Sciascia Association focuses on the writer relations with the American continent. Sciascia's interest in American literature - which developed during the rise of Fascism as a comparison model for the Italian writers who had translated and read with passion the novels of Faulkner, Hemingway and Steinbeck - goes hand in hand with his activities of translating, discussing in articles, editing the new American literature, and even corresponding with various writers and intellectuals from the otherside of the Atlantic. This paper was presented at the 12th Leonardo Sciascia Colloquium held in Rome on the 7th and 8th of October 2021. [Publisher's text]
