  • The Fables from the Dictatorship were Sciascia's first published work. He never again wrote in that genre, but this short book is important because the spirit and the values behind the individual pieces will inform his later, more mature works. The full title is significant, being the first instance of a hatred not only of Fascism and of Stalinism, but of any form of oppressiveness or injustice which motivated Sciascia then and throughout his career. The tone is bitter and committed, and the moral implicit in the tales themselves. As is clear from the opening fable, on the wolf and the lamb, he was consciously writing inside a tradition, one which stretches back to ancient times. [Publisher's text]
  • Favole della dittatura è l'opera prima di Sciascia. L'autore non ha più scritto nulla di questo genere letterario, ma è un libretto importante perché lo spirito e i valori sottesi a ciascuna favola si rinvengono nei suoi lavori più maturi. Il titolo del libro assume poi un significato importante, trattandosi del primo esempio di avversione dichiarata non solo al fascismo e allo stalinismo, ma a qualunque forma di oppressione o ingiustizia che ha poi caratterizzato il percorso dello scrittore. Ogni favola ha un tono amaro, impegnato, con una morale implicita. Fin dalla favola di apertura, sul lupo e l'agnello, è evidente come Sciascia sia conscio di muoversi nel solco di una consolidata tradizione. [Testo dell'editore]
