What are the consequences and challenges posed by the reduction in resources available for research purposes? Can Big Data be an answer, a solution, a way to access the information in a cost-effective way? Or will they increase the gap between rich and poor universities, and the level of inequality between researchers? Is it a way to finally lay the foundations for the society of information and knowledge glimpsed in recent decades, or will the growing importance of Big Data in the research be accompanied by problems still not entirely clear?.
