The Ager Nolanus table from De Nola treatise as prototype of modern cartography

  • Il paper analizza la Tavola Ager Nolanus di Ambrogio Leone e Gerolamo Mocetto, allegata al trattato De Nola (1514). Le analisi condotte hanno interessato vari aspetti iconografici, tra i quali quelli tipografici, quelli relativi alla costruzione tecnica dell'immagine, i metodi di rappresentazione impiegati e le tecniche cartografiche di rappresentazione fino al confronto con la geografia attuale dei luoghi attraverso la cartografia contemporanea. La ricerca si è avvalsa di letture grafiche digitali per ciascuno degli aspetti identificati. Il risultato dell'analisi comparativa della Tavola, anche a confronto con le altre tre Tavole allegate al Trattato, ne ha evidenziato il carattere di prototipo nell'ambito del disegno cartografico moderno.   • This paper analyzes the Ager Nolanus Table by Ambrogio Leone and Gerolamo Mocetto attached to De Nola Treatise (1514). The analyses involved several iconographic aspects, including typographical ones, those relating to the technical construction of the drawing,the representation methods used, and the cartographic representation techniques until the comparison with the current geography of the places through contemporary cartography. This research uses digital graphic analysis for each of the identified aspects. The result of the comparative analysis of the Table, also in comparison with the other three Tables attached to the Treatise, highlighted its prototype character in the context of modern cartography.
