  • Nella seconda metà del Seicento, il nome di Gassendi viene trascinato in una polemica che vede contrapposti il cartesiano Le Grand, sostenitore della spiritualità della mente, e il sociniano Aubert de Versé, teorico della materialità del pensiero. I pattern di questa polemica si ritroveranno in due momenti distinti della riflessione di John Locke, cui seguiranno sviluppi autonomi e confliggenti, rispettivamente in Clarke e Collins: la tesi della spiritualità divina e la teoria dell'identità del vivente.   • In the second half of the seventeenth century, the name of Gassendi was dragged into a controversy in which the Cartesian Le Grand, promoter of the spirituality of the mind, and the Socinian Aubert de Versé, theorist of the materiality of thought, opposed each other. The patterns of this controversy will later be found in two distinct moments of Locke's reflection, followed by autonomous and conflicting developments, respectively in Clarke and Collins: the thesis of divine spirituality and the theory of the identity of the living being.
