Diplomacia, precedencia ceremonial y representación : las visitas de personas reales al Reino de Navarra (ss : XVI-XVIII)

  • Desde la conquista castellana de 1512, Navarra no contó con la presencia de la figura regia en su territorio. Tras esa fecha, se creó un sistema diplomático compuesto tanto por agentes permanentes como por embajadores itinerantes, encargados de representar los intereses del reino en la Corte de Madrid. A pesar de ello, el monarca y su familia visitaron en varias ocasiones el territorio navarro para solicitar tropas y recursos para la guerra. Por otro lado, la asamblea navarra aprovechó para que el rey y el príncipe juraran sus Fueros y el mantenimiento de sus privilegios. La ritualidad y el ceremonial fueron muy importantes en estas visitas, en las que las instituciones del reino proyectaron una identidad común opuesta a la castellana. El resto de territorios de la Corona también quisieron visitar al rey cuando se acercaba a Navarra y protagonizaron serias disputas para preceder al resto en ceremonias públicas tales como los besamanos, exequias y proclamaciones reales.   • The kingdom of Navarre had not the king's presence since it was conquest by Castile in 1512. After that, it created a diplomatic system composed by permanent agents and itinerant ambassadors who represented the kingdom's interests in the Court of Madrid. Nevertheless the king and his family visited Navarre in order to apply for soldiers and money in times of war. On the other hand, navarrese assembly wanted the king and the prince to swear their Fueros and to maintain their privileges. The rituality and the ceremonial were crucial in theses visits where the kingdom's institutions projected a common identity opposite to Castilian. All the territories also wanted to visit the king in Navarre and they starred several disputes to precede the others in public events such as kisses, obsequies and royal proclamations [Publisher's text].
