Le sfide della divinazione nelle commedie di Aristofane

Nella pratica della divinazione rappresentata sulla scena comica si polarizza una dinamica conflittuale presente nella stessa società ateniese: da un lato intorno ai professionisti della mantica, oracolisti e indovini, incoraggiati dall'incertezza della situazione politica, si coagulava uno scetticismo generale, dall'altro agli oracoli era attribuito comunque il credito di espressione divina. L'articolo intende riconsiderare le tensioni semantiche prodotte nelle commedie aristofanee dall'ingresso in scena di queste figure. Sono focalizzate le potenzialità fabulatorie di una tecnica che, decontestualizzando il materiale oracolare e reinterpretandolo estemporaneamente nelle più disparate occasioni, lo orienta a interessi personali o politici. Soprattutto nei Cavalieri nell'esteso confronto di competenza oracolare dei due contendenti, ogni oracolo viene prontamente esposto all'interpretazione malevola o capziosa dell'avversario, illustrandone così l'intrinseco uso manipolatorio nell'orientamento del dibattito

Sullo fondo, a innescare la trama comica, si staglia ancora un oracolo di carattere tragico: quello di un destino vaticinato che si compie fatalmente per Paflagone, nonostante i tentativi di sfuggirgli. Soltanto nel Pluto l'arte oracolare non subisce aggressioni parodiche ma, attraverso la consultazione ufficiale dell'oracolo di Delfi, investe il problema fondamentale della relazione tra giustizia e ricchezza [Testo dell'editore].

The practice of divination represented on the comic stage polarises a conflicting dynamic present in the Athenian society itself: on the one hand, a general scepticism coagulated around the practitioners of prophetic art, seers and oracle-mongers, encouraged by the uncertainty of the political situation; on the other hand, the oracles were nevertheless credited with divine expression. The paper aims to reconsider the semantic tensions generated in the Aristophanic comedies by the entry of these figures on the stage. It focuses on the fabulatory potential of a technique that decontextualises oracular material, reinterpreting it extemporaneously on the most disparate occasions, and orients it to personal or political interests.
