Identità e alterità : la figura ambivalente dello straniero

Il rapporto tra identità e alterità viene interrogato a partire dalla figura dello straniero, intesa nella sua costitutiva ambivalenza. Attraverso un percorso che intreccia riflessione filosofica, tradizione classica e pensiero contemporaneo, il saggio mostra come lo straniero non possa essere ridotto a una semplice figura esterna o opposta all'identità, ma costituisca piuttosto un elemento essenziale per la sua definizione. A partire dall'analisi delle categorie di xenos, hostis e hospes, viene messa in luce la duplice natura dello straniero, insieme ospite e nemico, dono e minaccia. In questa prospettiva, l'identità non appare come un dato originario e stabile, ma come il risultato di un processo che si costituisce nel rapporto con l'altro, entro una tensione mai risolvibile tra apertura e difesa, accoglienza e rifiuto. L'articolo si inserisce così nel dibattito contemporaneo interrogando la possibilità stessa di parlare oggi di identità, mostrando come essa si dia soltanto nella relazione con ciò che la

The relationship between identity and alterity is examined through the figure of the foreigner, understood in its constitutive ambivalence. By bringing together philosophical reflection, classical tradition and contemporary thought, the essay shows that the foreigner cannot be reduced to a merely external figure opposed to identity, but rather constitutes an essential element in its definition. Starting from the analysis of the categories of xenos, hostis and hospes, the essay highlights the double nature of the foreigner, at once guest and enemy, gift and threat. From this perspective, identity does not appear as an original and stable given, but as the result of a process that takes shape in the relationship with the other, within a tension that can never be fully resolved between openness and defence, hospitality and rejection. The essay thus enters the contemporary debate by questioning the very possibility of speaking today of identity, showing that identity is given only in relation to what exposes it,
