On the fiftieth anniversary of his death, these pages aim to explore Edoardo Clerici's contribution to the Constituent Assembly, his acute observations wich proved decisive in improving the first drafts of the democratic order of the new Italian Republic. In his view, this order could not ignore the centrality of Parliament, the exclusion of the direct election of the President of the Republic by universal suffrage, the establishment of Cabinet Councils, and the creation of a Senate representing the Italian regions, provinces and large cities.
