Este volumen recoge las actas de un encuentro que reunió a algunos de los más apreciados filólogos italianos y españoles en torno a la transmisión de textos dramáticos, líricos y narrativos del Siglo de Oro español. El libro pretende no solo ofrecer casos de estudio relevantes al tema sino, sobre todo, reflexionar acerca de sus implicaciones teóricas y metodológicas. Se investigan las virtudes y los límites del método de Lachmann, aplicado a la circulación tanto manuscrita como impresa de obras transmitidas exentas o bien en códices o impresos misceláneos (partes de comedias, cancioneros y colecciones de novelas cortas).

Junto a importantes consideraciones teóricas sobre el método genealógico-crítico, el volumen examina también cuestiones relacionadas con la contaminación, la supresión de significativos segmentos textuales y la relación entre los textos y las colecciones que los incluyen.
