Rivoluzione e Costituzione nel Mediterraneo negli anni '20 dell'800

2024 - Franco Angeli

113-122 p.

  • Marco Meriggi reviews Maurizio Isabella's Southern Europe in the Age of Revolutions (Princeton UP 2023), which focuses on the 1820-21 uprisings in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and the Kingdom of Sardinia. These were only one of the revolutionary scenarios of the period, which was later marked by the Spanish and Portuguese revolutions, which inaugurated a cycle of civil wars that lasted more than a decade, and the Greek insurrection of 1821. Isabella asks, from a comparative and interconnected historical perspective, whether the Southern European revolu- tions are a late derivative of the Atlantic revolutions of a few decades earlier, or whether, despite their diversity, they can be seen as the expression of an original modernisation path to modernisation that only partially followed earlier models.
