This research aims to investigate the causes of the temporary crisis of West German tourism in Italy in the early 1960s, usually considered the gol- den age of mass holiday. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the essay examines the political, economic and socio-cultural factors underlying the decline in the Italian destinations among Rft travellers, by contextualizing them in the diplomatic and economic relations developed between these two countries after World War II.
