Ripostigli dell'età del Bronzo con oggetti d'ornamento dall'area padana

2022 - Istituto italiano di preistoria e protostoria

P. 1-39

  • This study analyses some Bronze Age hoards from Northern Italy including metal objects to adorn oneself, especially of feminine value. The paper deals with the hoards from Torrazza della Sforzesca and from Robbio, both in Lomellina (Pavia), and a deposition discovered in the Brabbia swamp (Cazzago, Varese). All three finds are characterized by bronze ornaments: armlets, openheaded collars with the ends bent back into loops and gorgets in the Torrazza and Robbio hoards and only gorgets in the Brabbia swamp. After a critical analysis of the sources, we proceed to a typological and chronological classification of the materials. Comparisons with similar materials from Bavaria allow us to date the Torrazza hoard to a central phase of the Early Bronze Age (BA IB-IC, Bz A 2-a late), while Robbio's hoard, which is not fully preserved, probably dates back to the beginnings of the MBA (BM I; Bz A2c late-B early).
