Un'edizione ritrovata : la princeps dei carmi di Vincenzo Barsio (Mantova, per Francesco Bruschi, 1516)

2021 - Leo S. Olschki

P. 291-302

  • The first Mantuan edition, long thought to be lost, of the poems of Vincenzo Barsio, a Carmelite monk connected to the circle of Battista Spagnoli and the Gonzaga court, has come to light, in two separate copies, in the Biblioteca Civica in Bergamo. Both copies of the edition form part of an early Sammelband. The edition, published in Mantua in 1516 by Francesco Bruschi and paid for by Isabella d'Este, gives us early versions of Barsio's Silvia and the eclogue Pamphilus et Pali-nurus, as well as other hitherto unknown Latin poems by him, and its discovery is a new addition to our knowledge of early sixteenth-century printing in Mantua.
