L'ineludibile questione delle donne Karen Offen, la Francia, i femminismi

2019 - Franco Angeli

77-94 p.

  • The interview traces the academic career of the American historian Karen Offen, author of two recent books on the "woman question" in France in the modern and contemporary period. Offen reviews the various stages of her long journey of discovery of women's history and gender relations. She discusses this journey from the perspective of archival documentation and methodologies, as well as her 'militant' commitment to teaching and the organisation of international networks. Offen looks at the various definitions of feminism, at the different analytical approaches and the various periodisations which she has elaborated in her research. Rethinking the dynamics of the history of women and of gender in the USA and in Europe in the 20th and 21st centuries also presents an opportunity to reflect on recent developments and the specifics of women's studies in other parts of the world, as well as on the future of the discipline and the public role of male and female historians in the world.
