Premessa

The introduction opens the single-theme section containing the proceedings of the seminar, “Southern Enlightenment: Themes, Issues, Perspectives”, which was held in Naples on 23 April 2025. Organised by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (DiSUS) at the University of Naples L'Orientale in collaboration with the Italian Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (SISSD), the seminar aimed to stimulate reflection on contemporary research perspectives on the Southern Enlightenment by comparing and integrating diverse scholarly experiences of historians, philologists, Italianists, philosophers and political thinkers.
