International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) : a panoramic view

- In questo articolo vengono presentate le caratteristiche salienti dell'International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF), un progetto sviluppato a partire dal 2011 dalla Bodleian Library, dalla British Library e dalla Stanford University Library allo scopo di migliorare la fruizione delle immagini digitali conservate in archivi disponibili tramite Web. Attraverso specifiche API, IIIF delinea un nuovo ecosistema informativo in grado di affrontare i problemi dell'eterogeneità di gestione e di accesso ai diversi silos contenenti immagini digitali, migliorando i tempi di risposta e le funzionalità a disposizione degli utenti. La partecipazione al progetto di alcune fra le più importanti biblioteche a livello internazionale è indice del grande interesse attorno a quella che potrebbe configurarsi come una vera rivoluzione nel modo di percorrere e fruire gli immensi patrimoni culturali digitalizzati già disponibili via Web. - International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIf), is a project developed since 2011 by the Bodleian Library, the British Library and the Stanford University Library in order to enhance the usability of digital images stored in archives available through the Web. Using specific API, IIIF outlines a new information ecosystem to deal with heterogeneity problems of management and access to various silos containing digital images, improving response times and operations for users. Participation in the project of some of the most important libraries shows the great interest around what could constitute a true revolution in the way to travel and enjoy the immense cultural heritage digitized already available via the Web.
