RDA in Italian : an Opportunity to Join the International Context

  • Alla fine di giugno del 2015 la traduzione italiana di RDA, Resource Description and Access, è stata portata a termine. La traduzione italiana di RDA è il risultato di un lavoro di un gruppo di esperti, provenienti dalle migliori università italiane sia pubbliche che private, dalle migliori biblioteche e agenzie bibliografiche e dalla Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana. La traduzione italiana è, inoltre, una traduzione ufficiale per l'Italia e verrà pubblicata dall'ICCU all'interno del RDA Toolkit verso la fine del 2015.
  • L'idea di una traduzione italiana è emersa dal desiderio di studiare lo standard RDA nel dettaglio, per meglio comprendere e sottolineare i principi, l'intero sistema, la terminologia e allo stesso tempo per analizzare il testo e i molti esempi. Il completamento della traduzione segna un punto cardine per il futuro del RDA in Italia. Si è giunti in un momento in cui SBN, il più importante progetto di cooperazione bibliotecaria raggiunto nel nostro paese fino ad oggi, è da ristrutturare. È il momento di ringiovanire SBN, per abbracciare i principi e gli standard internazionali attuali, e per rivolgersi verso le innovazioni tecnologiche, come i linked open data. [Testo dell'editore].
  • At the end of June 2015 the Italian translation of RDA, Resource Description and Access, was completed. This translation is the work of a group of experts, coming from the major public and private Italian universities, libraries and bibliographic agencies, and the Vatican Apostolic Library. Therefore, the Italian translation will be published by ICCU in the RDA Toolkit by the end of 2015 as the official RDA Italian version. The idea of translating RDA comes from the desire to study RDA in details, in order to understand better its underlying principles, the overall system, and the terminology, as well as to analyze the text and the various examples.
  • The conclusion of the translation marks a pivotal point for the future of RDA in Italy. In fact, the time has come for SBN, the most important project of library cooperation achieved in our country to date, to be renovated, to embrace current International principles and standards such RDA, and to move towards technological innovation such as linked open data.
