I disegni di progetto di Domenico Fontana per il portale del palazzo Reale di Napoli
P. 37-49
The drawings of the front and side elevations of the central portal of the Royal Palace of Naples, preserved in the Albertina Museum in Vienna, could document a variant during construction of the project for the portal that the ticinese architect Domenico Fontana realized for the Royal Palace of Naples. The differences between the drawings and the completed portal would suggest that it could be a hypothesis of a variation of the project to be submitted to the patron for approval. It could therefore be proposed as a date of 1601, when Fontana decided to modify the original project, during construction, by juxtaposing four free columns to the pilasters of the ground floor loggia, with the aim of giving greater prominence to the main entrance through a triumphal arch [Publisher's text].
