  • Sul Gesù storico i lavori sono in corso da molto tempo e chi vi lavora deve saper tirare fuori "cose nuove e cose antiche". In questo cantiere le cose "antiche" sono molteplici. Ad esempio: la vecchia ricerca ottocentesca che riduceva Gesù alla stregua di un fossile; la tendenza ad assolutizzare l'annuncio di Gesù a scapito della sua storia; l'applicazione di etichette ai frammenti evangelici ricorrendo ai famosi "criteri di storicità"; il Gesù alla maniera hippy degli esponenti del Jesus Seminar. Le cose "nuove" in cantiere, invece, sono: il dossier aperto su Gesù dalle autorità imperiali; la sostituzione dei classici criteri di storicità con i più elastici "quadri di riferimento"; un diverso utilizzo delle fonti e finalmente la valorizzazione dell'archeologia palestinese con i suoi sorprendenti risultati.

  • The research about the historical Jesus has been ongoing since long and every researcher has to “bring both new and old things out”. This research on-the-go presents plenty of “old things” such as: the outdated nineteenth-century quest reducing Jesus to a fossil; the exclusive focus given to Jesus' announce at the expense of His history; the pragmatist approach labelling evangelical fragments on the base of the famous “historicity criteria”; the “hippy Jesus” of the Jesus Seminar Scholars. As for the “new things” in progress we can mention the imperial report about Jesus; the replacement of the classical concept of “historicity criteria” with the more elastic one of framework; a different use of sources and finally the enhancement of the role of Palestinian archaeology due to her stunning findings.
  • It is worth pointing out the interdisciplinary approach of the authors (three historians, a theologian and three biblical scholars) as well as the special collaboration among scholars from Ecclesiastical and State University. It's a practical, challenging and intriguing book. [Publisher's text]
