I luoghi dello sport tra oblio e memoria : lo Stadio-Velodromo Libertas di Firenze

2026 - Franco Angeli

75-92 p.

The article traces the history of the Libertas StadiumVelodrome (known as the Via Bellini field), built in 192022 in a suburban area of Florence (San Jacopino) and demolished in 1955, when the area had already become an important industrial and residential hub. Drawing on journalistic sources and, above all, archival ones, the A. traces its history, starting from 2016, when a plaque was installed at the site where it once stood. Known for the first Fiorentina' s stadium (19261931), the structure had a history that predated, ran parallel to, and followed its use for soccer. This case study shows the relevance of places of sporting memory (a promising field of research in the history of sport) in the political, social, urban, and cultural history of a city.
