"Remembrer thy father" : patrilineality, pietas, and an unnecessary deletionin Ovid's Medea (met. VII 170)

The line has recently been bracketed on philological as well as interpretative grounds. This paper argues that, far from being a later interpolation, the line is authentic. Medea's recollection is part of her systematic attack on familial, particularly paternal, ties and of her broader rhetorical and intertextual manipulation of the Roman concept of pietas [Publisher's Text].
