Considerando le grandi dimensioni e l'elevato peso delle navi, è facile immaginare l'impatto ambientale di questi mezzi di trasporto lasciati, per un tempo indefinito, in stato di degrado. La questione di tali “eredità tossiche” è molto complessa e riguarda non solo l'oggetto stesso ma anche il recupero ecologico del sito. The phenomenon of abandoned ships is growing constantly, and involves the most varied vessel types. Considering the large size and heavy weight of ships, it is easy to imagine the environmental impact of these means of transport when left, for an indefinite time, in a state of degradation. The issue of such “toxic legacies” is very complex and concerns not only the vessel itself but also the ecological recovery of the site.
