Angelo Crespi : dal socialismo alla Respublica Christiana

2022 - Leo S. Olschki

P. 277-300

  • The focus of the article is Angelo Crespi's (1877-1949) transition from socialism to Respublica Christiana. It aims at a reconstruction of a multifaceted and complex iter, which implies both Crespi's conversion from a positivist vision of socialism to Catholicism and the awareness that Catholicism itself needed to be reformed. It shows how Crespi's strong relationship with the English cultural and political world played a key role within this iter and led him to think that the Catholic Reform could be inspired by the idea of liberty which sprang from British history and that is corroborated by the British resistance to nazi-fascism regimes.
