  • La Conferenza permanente dei Rettori delle università italiane (Crui) fu uno degli attori principali sulla scena universitaria negli anni Sessanta. I rettori divennero presto la componente con più possibilità di influire sulla politica accademica, anche grazie agli intrecci con la politica e le istituzioni. Non erano solo professori ordinari, ma figure ai vertici della propria disciplina, spesso parte dell'amministrazione centrale. Ciò conferiva loro grande capacità di influenza, soprattutto se organizzati in una struttura stabile.
  • L'autore chiarisce quali furono i primi sviluppi della Conferenza; come si pose di fronte alle trasformazioni negli atenei; il grado di influenza sulle decisioni politiche; le relazioni con le altre componenti accademiche. L'autore ha svolto la ricerca presso gli archivi di alcuni atenei, non esistendo un fondo Crui. Sono stati inoltre utilizzati alcuni fondi personali: quello dell'ex-ministro della Pubblica istruzione Luigi Gui (Dc) e quello di Tristano Codignola, allora responsabile scuola del Psi.   • The Conference of Italian University Rectors (Crui) was one of the major actors in the academic world during the 1960s. Chancellors were able to have the highest degree of influence on Italian university politics, especially through their relationship with politicians and institutions. Not only were they full professors, but also prominent figures in their respective fields, often involved in central administration. The Chancellors' decision to create a coordinating association allowed them to gain an even greater power.
  • The author explains the development of this body in its first stages. Then, he analyses how the Crui faced the transformations of the academic system in the 1960s. Last but not least, he studies their relationship with the other members of the academic world. Since a collection of Crui papers does not exist, the study is based on the archives of a few universities and on the private papers of former minister of Public Education Luigi Gui and those of Tristano Codignola, former Socialist party responsible for educational affairs.
