  • Alla base di una grande opera d'arte, secondo il pensiero estetico di Gentile, c'è sempre il sentimento che garantisce all'arte di essere immortale nei secoli. A ciò va aggiunto che l'arte vive morendo, ossia – di contro all'interpretazione proposta da Croce – la morte dell'arte non è empirica ma ideale e l'arte vive integrandosi e confluendo in altri momenti della vita dello spirito. Pertanto l'estetica di Gentile si propone come una concezione olistica in cui ogni momento è essenziale per garantire la vita del tutto. [Testo dell'editore].
  • According to Gentile's aesthetical thought, at the base of a great work of art there is always the sentiment, that assures the immortality of art through the centuries. Furthermore, art lives and dies at the same time. So we can say that – in opposition to Benedetto Croce's interpretation – the death of art is not empirical, but ideal, and that art lives by integrating itself with others moments of the spiritual life. Gentile's Aesthetics is therefore a holistic conception, in which all elements are essential to the existence of the whole. [Publisher's text].
