  • La questione dell'unità del metodo e sistema in Hobbes è recentemente tornata alla ribalta. Nel saggio si considera il problema non in termini generalmente epistemologici, ma piuttosto da un punto di vista antropologico, mettendo a fuoco la dottrina hobbesiana dell'«uomo» e specialmente la sua teoria della mente, che connette la fisica materialistica alla morale e alla politica. La sfida principale sarà vedere quanto Hobbes abbia tentato di salvare la differenza dell'uomo senza indebolire la fondazione materialistica del sistema. Le principali nozioni da chiarire sono «passionate thought» and «curiosity»: come si vedrà, esse sono strettamente connesse col metodo, sì che «metodo» e «sistema», col problema della loro unità nel pensiero di Hobbes, coincidono proprio su questo punto preciso.   • The question of the unity of Hobbes's method and system has recently returned to the fore. In what follows we will consider the question not in general epistemological terms, but rather from an anthropological viewpoint, focusing on Hobbes's doctrine "of man" and especially his theory of mind, which connects materialistic physics to morals and politics. The main challenge will be to see how Hobbes tried to preserve human distinctiveness without sapping the materialistic foundations of the system. The crucial notions to address will be "passionate thought" and "curiosity". As we shall see, these notions are tightly connected to the methodological issue, so that "method" and "system", with the problem of their unity in Hobbes's thought, overlap on this very point.
