The book by Manuela Martini reconstructs the history of Italians in the French housing sector, and is based on a huge array of sources and a highly productive methodology. It investigates, above all, the upward social mobility of some of these migrants, which was achieved as a result of pre-existing high-level organisational skills coupled with the use of a wide variety of kinship systems.
