Cremona fascista (1922-1940)

2017 - Franco Angeli

5-67 p.

  • This work reconstructs the political, social and cultural history of fascist Cremona from 1922 to the eve of World War II: Farinacci's central role in the seizure of local power; the origins of the Cremona Fascio and its leadership, strictly tied to Farinacci, as well as the continuity of that leadership across the years; the rise of consensus in the rural areas; the violent and rapid elimination of all opposers; the effects on the city of the rise and fall of Farinacci as a national leader of the Pnf. The daily life of the citizens of Cremona is dominated by the two figures of Farinacci and the prefetto Francesco Rossi, a rare example of continuous presence of the central government and of the symbiosis between party and state at the local level.
  • Behind them a consolidated leading élite, that claimed its common background in Bissolati's thought: Moretti, Vacchelli, Carletti, Pantaleo ("pen" number 2 in the press close to Farinacci), Baroli, Bellini, Bellomi, Brambati, Montanari, Sperlari, Gnocchi, Gerevini, don Illemo Camelli.
