Comprendre et Configuration du sens : sur la Portée Herméneutique de la Pensée d'Ernst Cassirer
P. 29-46
This contribution explores the relationship between Cassirer's philosophyand hermeneutics through its two main dimensions, understandingand interpretation, in their relationship to the institution of meaning. While Cassirer places understanding and the configuration of meaning atthe heart of his approach to Man, he does so by following a very differentpath from Heidegger's hermeneutics of facticity. After reconstructing hisopposition to hermeneutic philosophy, we show that Cassirer sees understandingby the animal symbola formans, which constructs and configuresthe world, not as submission to being, but as liberation. This allows us to bring him closer to contemporary philosophies of interpretation. Thismovement of configuration, which inhabits the Philosophy of SymbolicForms, naturally extends, in the form of a critical hermeneutics based onhistorical hermeneutics, into the Logic of the Cultural Sciences.
