Paggio e gentiluomo : note a margine a un recente volume

Il contributo si propone di analizzare il volume Paggi e paggerie inquadrandolo nei cambiamenti della storiografia sulla corte degli ultimi quattro decenni. Al centro vi è la questione dell'educazione al servizio della corona e delle famiglie sovrane, come educazione al comando in varie esperienze italiane. Sono così messi in evidenza i ruoli di persone, saperi e spazi del mondo cortigiano, rimasti in penombra. In secondo luogo, gli autori del volume hanno coraggiosamente optato per una cronologia che non si conclude con la fine dell'antico regime, ma che abbraccia tutto il XIX secolo. [Testo dell'editore]

The paper aims to analyze the volume Paggi e paggerie by relating it to the changes that historiography on the court has undergone over the past four decades. At its center lies the issue of training to the service of the crown and sovereign families, education and training of young aristocrats for service in the courts and sovereign families or for high level roles in the army or in State bureaucracies. This highlights the roles of individuals, knowledge, and spaces within the courtly world that have so far recevied scart attention. Secondly, the authors of the volume have courageously chosen a chronology extending beyond the end of the ancien régime and embracing the whole nineteenth century [Publisher's text]
