L'articolo ripercorre alcuni passaggi chiave della storia della tutela ambientale in Sicilia, dal XVIII secolo al presente, con focus sul secondo dopoguerra e la transizione da un'economia industriale a potenziale turistico. Analizza il conflitto tra sviluppo e preservazione, usando come caso emblematico la Riserva dello Zingaro (area tra Scopello e San Vito Lo Capo). Le fonti includono documenti d'archivio, stampa dell'epoca, studi specialistici e atti parlamentari. I risultati mostrano come l'industrializzazione abbia deturpato il paesaggio, i ritardi nelle politiche di tutela, la "marcia dello Zingaro" (1980) come mobilitazione chiave che portò alla prima legge regionale su parchi e riserve (1981), avviando il sistema regionale di aree protette. The article traces some key passages in the history of environmental protection in Sicily, from the 18th century to the present, with a focus on the post-World War II period and the transition from an industrial economy to one with tourist potential. It analyzes the conflict between development and preservation, using the Zingaro Reserve (area between Scopello and San Vito Lo Capo) as an emblematic case study. The sources include archival documents, contemporary press, specialized studies, and parliamentary acts. The results show how industrialization has disfigured the landscape, the delays in protection policies, and the "Zingaro march" (1980) as a key mobilization that led to the first regional law on parks and reserves (1981), initiating the regional system of protected areas.
