Sul trasferimento delle spoglie di Carlo Botta, "maître dans l'art de bien dire"

Il presente contributo, attraverso l'analisi del contesto storico e delle coeve fonti sull'argomento, ricostruisce cronologicamente la vicenda del trasferimento delle spoglie del letterato, storico e patriota Carlo Botta da Parigi a Firenze, avvenuto nel 1875. Questo episodio, profondamente radicato nello spirito risorgimentale, assunse una particolare rilevanza simbolica e patriottica nel più ampio processo di costruzione dell'identità nazionale, rappresentando un tema di interesse che, fino ad oggi, non è stato oggetto di specifici studi. A seguito della disamina delle esequie e delle commemorazioni funebri, l'articolo approfondisce il trasferimento delle spoglie di Carlo Botta e il ruolo determinante svolto dall'Associazione Liberale Canavesana.

Viene inoltre esaminato l'iter parlamentare che si concluse con l'approvazione della legge autorizzativa alla tumulazione delle ceneri del letterato nella Basilica fiorentina. Infine, è illustrata la cerimonia di inaugurazione del monumento dedicato allo scrittore eporediese, eretto in Santa Croce nel 1903 in ottemperanza alla volontà testamentaria del magistrato Carlo Dionisotti (1824-1899). This paper provides a chronological reconstruction of the transfer of the remains of the writer, historian, and patriot Carlo Botta from Paris to Florence in 1875, through the analysis of the historical context and contemporary sources. This event, deeply rooted in the spirit of the Risorgimento, holds significant symbolic and patriotic relevance within the broader process of constructing national identity, representing a topic of interest that has, until now, not been specifically studied. Following the examination of the funeral and memorial services, the article focuses on the transfer of Carlo Botta's remains and the pivotal role played by the Associazione Liberale Canavesana. Furthermore, it analyzes the parliamentary process that led to the approval of the law authorizing the burial of the writer's ashes in the Florentine Basilica.

In conclusion, the paper describes the inauguration ceremony of the monument dedicated to Carlo Botta, erected in Santa Croce in 1903 in accordance with the testamentary wishes of magistrate Carlo Dionisotti (1824-1899). [Publisher's text]
