Consegnarsi alla storia : il mito di Francesco Crispi e l'opera di Tommaso Palamenghi

2022 - Franco Angeli

21-38 p.

  • This article investigates the pathways of the memory of Francesco Crispi in the first half of the 20th century. In particular, the author casts light on the contribution of various former collaborators of Crispi, to whom the statesman bestowed the task of publishing his memoirs while maintaining a precise interpretation of his character and political actions. The work was never published, but some of his faithful disciples published articles and studies on him immediately after his death. The most interesting example is that of his nephew Tommaso Palamenghi, formerly Crispi's private secretary, who managed to secure exclusive rights to his uncle's archives, worked freely on the documents, and published various works which are still considered important sources for the study of the Sicilian statesman.
  • The analysis of the publications, and the comparison with the original archival documents reveal the constituent elements of the mythopoetic image of Crispi, as shaped in nationalist and Fascist circles. [Publisher's text].
