Potentia romana
viii, 138 pages : illustrations (some color)
Includes bibliographical references.
This volume collects the proceedings of the international conference dedicated to the study of the city of Potentia and the surrounding territory in the Roman age, held in Potenza and Pietragalla ( in which area lies the archaeological site of Monte Torretta) on April 26, 2022. Contributions from Italian and foreign scholars range from investigations and readings of epigraphs, including unpublished ones, to archaeological insights and historical analysis; the whole represents a systematic and pioneering attempt to define the geographical, social, and cultural physiognomy of the ancient Lucanian city. Potentia, precisely because of its wealth of artifacts and its strategic location in the heart of regio III Lucania et Bruttii, represents a further piece in the picture of the Greek-Roman city as a living, pulsating center of the ancient world, the subject of in-depth study by the international Ancient Cities study center.
