Il castello di Modica e le prime maioliche

  • Gli scavi condotti nell'area del castello di Modica hanno permesso di individuare alcune antiche strutture di età normanna, mentre i rinvenimenti ceramici hanno svelato anche le altre fasi dal XIII alle più recenti. Nei livelli pertinenti alla fase quattrocentesca sono state ritrovate ceramiche rivestite che possono essere inserite tra le prime maioliche siciliane. Esse testimoniano i grandi mutamenti avvenuti nella società siciliana del '400. [Testo dell'editore].
  • The archaeological excavations carried out in the area of the castle of Modica allowed us to find out some ancient structures of Norman age, while the ceramic finds have also revealed the other phases from the XIIIth century A.D. to the most recent periods. Coated ceramics have been found in the levels related to the XVth century phase. Here among the archaeological finds, it has been found the first Sicilian majolica. These finds testify the great changes occurred in the XVth century Sicilian society. [Publisher's text].
