  • Nel marzo 1949 sette delegati sovietici parteciparono a una conferenza per la pace mondiale a New York, mentre in ottobre un altro gruppo di esponenti culturali dell'URSS si recò a Pechino per celebrare la nascita della Repubblica Popolare Cinese. L'articolo osserva questi due avvenimenti attraverso la lente del cineasta Sergej A. Gerasimov e dei suoi documentari La pace prevarrà sulla guerra e La Cina liberata, prodotti dopo le due visite.   • In March 1949 seven Soviet representatives arrived in New York City to attend a conference for world peace, and in October another group of Soviet cultural figures visited Beijing to celebrate the founding of the People's Republic of China. This article looks at these two occasions through the lens of the filmmaker Sergei A. Gerasimov and the documentary films, Peace Will Conquer War and Liberated China that he produced after both visits. The article identifies a pivotal moment in the evolution of Soviet cinematic diplomacy by focusing on documentary film as a contributor to the emerging discourse of peace, on film co-production as a demonstration of the “friendship” between socialist nations, and on filmmakers as “unofficial ambassadors” during the cultural Cold War.
