Le scuole filosofiche romane : appunti e spunti intorno a De Mauro, Calogero e Garroni

2022 - Bibliopolis

P. 97-117

  • In recent years, several scholars have argued that we need to rethink theroots and history of Italian philosophy. There has been talk of an Italian Thoughtto refer to Italy's distinctive contribution to philosophical research. Within the diverse and polycentric framework of the history of twentieth-century Italian philosophy, this contribution aims to explore the different souls of the Roman philosophical schools, with special reference to the complex figures of Calogero, Gregory, Garroni and De Mauro. In doing so, it highlights some common threadsrunning through them: the historical-theoretical method, a focus on meaning andunderstanding, and the interweaving of nature and history in De Mauro's conception of language. This last author, building on a Crocian historicist and idealistsubstratum, strikes a middle ground of sorts between the extremes of the linguisticturn, on the one hand, and the structuralist vulgate, on the other.
