El terremoto de Sicilia oriental (Val di Noto) de 1693 : análisis de la reacción post sísmica en base cuantitativa y cartográfica
15-39 p.
- The earthquake in eastern Sicily, called the Val di Noto earthquake of 1693, was a natural disaster of catastrophic dimensions. The political and religious authorities of Sicily and Spain reacted with political, economic and social efforts that have left their mark on countless miscellaneous documentation deposited in local, regional, national and international archives. The compilation made by the INGV, in the CFTI dossier (Catalog of Strong Earthquakes in Italy), has collected the main documentary references of the earthquake. We have partially accounted for the contents through a quantitative method and we have established some first hypotheses for future interpretations. At the same time we have paid attention to the language of the disaster and to some cartographic representations to propose an initial cartography of the 1693 earthquake from a long-term perspective and with engravings of German, Dutch, French and Italian authors.
