Boccaccio nel Rinascimento : il De mulieribus claris da Bagli a Betussi : strategie illustrative e giunte testuali
P. 301-360
This essay examines the reception of Boccaccio during the Italian Renaissance, especially as regards one of his most successful works: the De mulieribus claris. The essay's main focus are the vernacular editions by Vincenzo Bagli and Giuseppe Betussi, which were printed in Venice in 1506 and in 1545, respectively. The two editions are compared and analysed with regard to the specific text proposed, the decorative aspects and the illustrative apparatus. This investigation then highlights the peculiarities of each edition and shows their different relationships with the Latin text and with its ancient vernacular translations. This analysis thus offers an opportunity to collect further data on the history of print in the XVIth century and specifically on the development of printing in Venice. Finally, it presents the first critical edition of six biographies from Betussi's Additione, whose complete edition is forthcoming. [Publisher's text]
