This re-reading of Sciascia's plaquette, Dalle parti degli infedeli (In the Lands of the Unbelievers) published in 1979 by Sellerio, seeks to reveal the intellectual and moral affinity which the writer from Racalmuto felt with the protagonist of his text, Angelo Ficarra, the Bishop of Patti, who was unjustly removed from his episcopal see. Sciascia recounts the troubled story, considering Ficarra as one of a band of ‘men of tenacious concepts', a group to which he himself felt he belonged. [Publisher's text]
