P. 14-31

  • Underwater archaeological research in the sea of Licata resumes, thanks to thesupport of private citizens, unfolding important data about human presencealong this coast since the prehistoric era.During a fi ve-year period of research, it has been possible to survey 5 archaeologicalsites, in most cases placed near dangerous shoals, in which most likelyships wrecks have been hidden since the Archaic Greek period. In the case of the islet of San Nicola, the various underwater excavation campaigns, conducted by the Archaeological Group of Italy Finziade with the scientific direction of the Superintendency of the Sea, have allowed to identifythe presence of numerous anchors from diff erent eras oriented towards the islet.Th ere is evidence in the island of a docking site for ancient boats, perhaps usedas a coastal landing place and refugium.
