Mill's life and theoretical evolution, this essay tries to describe and outline the aim of this Author's work: to combine different doctrines and philosophical points of view. English Utilitarianism, German Romanticism and even Saint Simon Socialism: they all have their place in such intellectual effort. Through their contradictions and connections, Mills elaborated an original system of thought based on individual liberties, their role as limits to State power, and their function as tools designed to grant every men and women, his or her own original development.
