Per un confronto tra Plotino e l'Anonimo del Sublime sulla bellezza ideale

  • L'articolo cerca di instaurare un confronto filosofico tra l'anonimo trattato Sul sublime e il concetto di bellezza ideale teorizzato da Plotino, in particolare nel suo scritto Sulla bellezza intelligibile (Enn. V 8 31). Si argomenta che i punti di contatto tra i due autori sul tema in questione sono riconducibili a quattro princìpi fondamentali: a) la dipendenza del raggiungimento della bellezza da uno stato di estasi che supera ogni sua manifestazione sensibile; b) l'indipendenza della bellezza da ogni giudizio soggetto alle variazioni di tempo e di luogo; c) il potere della bellezza di mostrare la verità ideale in questo mondo; d) la natura non quantitativa della bellezza, che, per sua essenza, va al di là dei canoni matematici dell'ordine e della proporzione.   • The paper attempts to philosophically compare the treatise On the Sublime and the theory of beauty expounded by Plotinus, particularly in his writing On the Intelligible Beauty (Enn. V 8 31). I argue that the points of contact between the two authors on this topic can be reduced to four main principles: a) the dependence of beauty's realization on a status of ecstasy that exceeds every sensible manifestation of it; b) the independence of beauty from any judgement subject to the variations of time and place; c) the power of beauty to show the ideal truth in this world; d) the immeasurable nature of beauty that, essentially, goes beyond mathematical canons of order and proportion.
