  • Since the months of its production, the adventures told in Don Camillo (J. Duvivier, 1952) - the first of a very popular series of films based on tales of the radically antiCommunist journalist and writer Giovannino Guareschi - had to suffer attacks and criticism by various political factions, first of all by the leaders of the strong Communist Federation in Reggio Emilia. This study explores the polemics and debates emerged at the time, especially between Guareschi and the Communist Party of Reggio Emilia. [Publisher's text]
