La collezione Banfi presso il Castello di Poggio alle Mura a Montalcino (Si) = The Banfi collection at Castello di Poggio alle Mura in Montalcino (Si)

2025 - L'Erma di Bretschneider

260 p.

The volume presents the complete edition of three important groups of archaeological materials formerly part of the Placidi, Cambi, and Lovatelli collections. In the second half of the 20th century, these collections were acquired by the Banfi Foundation and collected at the Castle of Poggio alle Mura (Montalcino, Siena). Today, the collection consists of over 250 pieces, featuring a highly diverse range of materials that span a broad chronological period from the 9th to the 1st century BC. The artifacts originate from various areas, including the territory of Montalcino —particularly a group of limestone funerary urns attributed to a single burial context (Placidi)— as well as from Chiusi (Cambi), Vulci, and Visentium. Additionally, there is a significant group of materials from southern Italy, notably a collection of Apulian pottery (Lovatelli). [Publisher's text]
