The essay proposes a reflexion to highlight the crucial criteria for a new understanding of the idea of justice in the light of the concept of restorative justice. Such a reflexion describes the archaic code of Western civilization. It derives from the connection between the logics of identity, power, property and sacrifice. In this tradition, justice inevitably becomes punitive and sacrificial. The deep change marked by emergence of restorative justice allows us to open the way to a justice that does not cause victims. Such a nonviolent value of this type of justice concerns not only the judicial sphere, but also social and international relations.
